
New "I Renovate" from May: subsidy up to 90% & up to €36,000 per residence

A new cycle of the "Anakainizo" (Renovate) programme is expected to launch in May, aiming to activate vacant properties and boost the supply of housing on the market — and for the first time, it will also cover owner-occupied residences. 🏡
What we know so far (based on the latest announcements)
✅ Budget: up to €500 million ✅ Target: more than 15,000 homes ✅ Eligible properties: mainly older apartments with a building permit up to 31/12/1990, with a surface area of up to 120 sq.m. ✅ Grant per property: up to approximately €36,000 ✅ Subsidy calculation: per sq.m., with a cap of €300/sq.m. ✅ Subsidy rate: approximately 80%–90% (with increases for specific categories)
What works will be subsidised
🔧 Renovation works: approximately 60%–90% ⚡ Energy interventions (e.g. solar panels, window frames): approximately 20%–30% of total expenditure
Income criteria (under review)
💶 Up to €35,000 for couples, with an increase of €5,000 per child, with no age restriction and no limit on the number of applications per owner.
How to prepare now (so you don't lose time when it opens)
📌 Check:
- Legality/details of the property (E9 form, sq.m., permit/date)
- Whether the property is vacant (where required) or owner-occupied
- An initial budget for works/contractors
